Program Overview

Linguistics Career Launch 2024 is a two-week summer “boot camp” designed to help people with linguistics degrees explore career possibilities outside of academia. LCL24 will take place virtually on 10 days from July 15 to July 26 using the Gather.town platform as an interactive hub, with panels, workshops, and courses conducted via Zoom. There are two groups of programming that make up LCL24 General Registration: Sessions and Meetups. We are also offering two Courses.

General Registration

General Registration includes events providing broad career guidance and exploration, including:

Workshops on career management topics like resume writing, using LinkedIn, building relationships with people who can help you in your career, and finding jobs opportunities
Workshops on skills like generativeAI and taxonomy
Career panels with linguists representing a wide variety of organizations and sectors
Networking and office hours opportunities with career linguists

Sessions (workshops, panels, and other structured events) will take place in Zoom.

Meetups (office hours, mixers, and a few additional events) will take place in Gather.town. Gather is a proximity chat platform that lets you navigate an avatar around the virtual LCL conference center. When you are in proximity to someone else, your video and audio automatically turn on. It’s the platform that we think best replicates the in-person experience.

All sessions will take place on weekdays between the hours of 8am Pacific US/11am Eastern US – 4pm Pacific US/7pm Eastern US. We do have a few meetups that run as late as 6:30pm Pacific US/9:30pm Eastern US. This helps us make sure that West Coast linguists are able to attend after work. See the Calendar for more details.

Course Registration

We are also offering two Courses: Document Design with Dr. Nancy Frishberg and Career Discernment with Dr. Anna Marie Trester. Courses are purchased as an add-on to the general registration.

CANCELLATION POLICY AND REFUNDS

In the event that LCL24 is canceled by the organizers, registrants will be entitled to a refund of all registration costs MINUS Eventbrite registration fees.

All registrations are final. Refunds will not be provided if you cancel your individual attendance. If you can no longer attend, your registration will be transferable to another individual until July 8, 2024. If you need to transfer your registration, you can do so on your ticket in Eventbrite.

By registering for LCL24, you consent to share your name and certain information with the organizers of LCL24; our parent organization, the Linguistic Society of America; and the corporate sponsors of LCL24.
LC24 (and its corporate sponsors) will not sell or share your information with third parties for any reason. You will have the ability to opt out of communications from LCL24, LSA, or our LCL24 corporate sponsors.
